The Gglitch:

The GgLITCH is a TECHNOFUNKROCK band from Iowa City that plays experimental improvised  music in an undefined unique genre.  They have been a supporting act for talented bands such as The Codetalkers feat. Col. Bruce Hampton, Oteil Burbridge & The Peacemakers, Robert Walter & the 20th Congress, the Zen Tricksters, Shanti Groove, Cornmeal and Captain Soularcat. The band got started in Ames, Iowa in 1998, when Brian Cretzmyer, a classically trained pianist and Acid-pro techno guru met Ty Byerly(singer/songwriter/entrapaneur) and Casey Coppi (bassist) on the Iowa State Campus. Several wild basement jam sessions later the core of the band emerged from a fountain of booze,  smoke, and sound.   From the start, humor, friendship, sonic experimentation and unicality and an uncompromisingly intense improv became the defining characteristics of the band. The group started playing on a weekly basis, and playing at bars around Ames, including People's Bar. After several transient changes in drummers, and aquiring Otar as their guitarist, the band ended up on the U of Iowa campus music scene.  Here, the band continued refining its sound and writing original material, and soon became favorites at the Green Room , Yacht Club, and other local venues, with a growing fan base. Gglitch concerts draw a young audience  for a night of feel-good, structurally interesting, brutally percussive and often melodically dissecting music in a seamless salad of different styles, including funk, rock, reggae, jazz, bluegrass, and circus oohmpa. Interwoven in the risk-taking, demonstrative musicianship and catchy original compositions, the Gglitch serves up a tasty gumbo of hard-swinging rockish covers, by heroes including the Doors, Zappa, Beatles, as well as an occasional jazz standard like Song For My Father, or a silly TV show theme song toodle. Imagine a powerful, aggressive, funk grove laid down on drums and bass, with a heavily distorted Rhodes piano smoldering odd minor chords, and a breeze of swimming textures behind.  Then hear the biggest crescendo build you've ever heard that goes on for 10 minutes and leads to a shattering eruption of jumbled nonsense with a screaming guitar and bloody fingers, channeling into a kick-back lounge number, with the words encouraging you to join the army, and gradually fooling you into getting yet another beer and driving home drunk. That's what the Gglitch is all about. Some of Gglitch favorites include Pirelli Fratelli, Thank you for Everything, Bush King, Knifey Spooney, Devil, Tinfoil Blues, Reverend Ultimate Warrior, Otto's School Bus, Pirate Booty, Enrico Montoban's Cordoba, Island Boy.

Bios:

Brian Cretzmeyer (keyboards/vocals)

Mysterious. Misleading.  Misunderstood. These are all words that have been used when asked about Mr. Cretzmeyer.  Well versed in all styles of music,  his unmistakable piano style and unpredictable abilities border both genius and insanity.  He is one of a kind.

Otar Taktakishvili (guitar/ vocals)

Otar is arguably the best musician in the Gglitch.  He has an uncanny ability to hear and interpret an idea and then nurture it to become a reality.  His passion for music and incredible work ethic has already produced three outstanding solo albums plus he sees all engineering on the soon to be released Gglitch records.  When the band is asked about Otar, they simply state, "Otar is the man." OTAR's REBEL RECORD available here.

Ty Byerly (dulcimer/vocals)

Is this guy one of the funniest human beings to have ever lived?  What he may lack in musical talent he makes up for with unadulterated charm and incomparable wit.  His electric dulcimer adds a psychogenic swirl to the jams.  His poetic voice adds a cynical/humorous twist to almost every song.  His in-your-face style & cocky banter makes him easy to both love and hate.  What a character this guy is.

Adam Morford (drums)

Don't let this kid's looks fool you.  When he's behind the drum set, he's all business.  His out of this world style has propelled the Gglitch to where they are today.  His high energy and  positive attitude makes him a very valuable asset to the band.  In short his mind just works on a timing that most would not be able to understand.

Byron Stevens (bass guitar)

There is no better ear in the land.  He is indeed the most dependable guy in the band.  His timing is impeccable and he delivers exactly what is expected of him.  Byron can play disciplined and straight forward or turn on a flashy, jaw dropping free for all.  Mr. Stevens has not limit to his talents as evident by his ability to also rock the trombone.
